Business Travel and Credit Cards
Credit cards can have some great travel perks like reward points for spending and fraud protection. However, they are not the only business loan option you have for traveling. When you’re out and about overseas, it’s important to make sure you have access to cash, especially in the right denomination. You want to have enough to pay for your business travel expenses, but not so much you end up being targeted for theft. For that, you need to have several options put in place to make sure you have enough money to see you safely back home.
Credit Cards
These are very handy to have and can help you to get money out of any ATM all over the world. The problems arise when your credit card company is not informed that you will be traveling overseas and they notice transactions there and put a freeze on the account thinking that fraud is taking place. Even prior notification isn’t a complete guarantee you won’t lose the ability to use the card in some fashion, so it’s a good idea to have a backup plan.
Travelers Checks
Another good strategy is to have some travelers’ checks available, in case you need money and the credit card isn’t working out for you. This can offer some protection from theft, too.
Pay in Advance
Pay your lodging in advance. If you can include some meals, that means that even if everything fails, you still will get maybe a meal a day until you can get money wired to you. Pay your tickets in advance before you leave your departure country.
Carry Some Foreign Money
Make sure to get some foreign money before you arrive at your destination. You can do this online beforehand. Otherwise, you can use a moneychanger at the airport, but be careful to check that they are accepting dollars. With currency values fluctuating, there are times when travelers have tried to use dollars and been denied the transaction. That’s why it’s a better idea to get some foreign exchange done online, before you arrive in the foreign country.
