Sunshine Breaks In Lanzarote

Few destinations close to the UK offer great weather all year round.  But the Canaries are the exception – as although these seven Spanish islands are just a four hour flight from British airports the temperature here remains above 20 degrees all year round.

As a result the Canaries are popular as both a winter and summer sun destination – and around 800,000 British tourists arrive on flights to Lanzarote from the UK every year.  With the bulk then heading for accommodation in one of the three main resorts – although rural tourism is also growing rapidly too.  As Lanzarote boasts plenty of unspoiled scenery thanks to strict local controls on building development.

Whilst the weather is good here all year round and beach holidays can be enjoyed even in December there are still distinct seasons and better times to visit than others.  The weather is at its most changeable and unreliable from February though until April.  Whilst the autumn months usually offer the most spectacular sunshine and calm periods.  As the Trade Winds that blow across the island have usually abated by then.

Where will tourists find the best places to stay?  That all depends on budget and personal preference.  As there is an abundance of accommodation in Lanzarote for visitors to choose from – covering the whole gamut from cheap apartments through to luxury villas and five star hotels.  Around half of all visitors opt for self catering accommodation – the bulk of which is concentrated in the two largest resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca.  Although holiday villas in Costa Teguise are also very popular as the islands third largest resort offers plenty of peace and tranquility along with decent facilities such as shops, bars and restaurants.

Wherever visitors stay they will find Lanzarote to be a very peaceful and calm holiday location with plenty to do and see.  So it makes sense to rent a vehicle in order to explore all that the island has to offer.  There are Lanzarote car hire offices in all of the main resorts, as well as in the arrivals hall at Arrecife airport.   And the roads here are quiet and easy to use.

The must see attraction on Lanzarote are the Fire Mountains of Timanfaya.  Forged by volcanic activity hundreds of years ago they create a very surreal spectacle and have featured in numerous science fiction films, such is their dramatic impact.

Start Planning Your Fall Family Camping Trip

November 28, 2009 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Camping, Summer Vacation

Has summer slipped away without your annual family camping trip? No worries! Fall can be a wonderful time to take your family away for a weekend camping trip. You will enjoy smaller crowds, thanks to the fact that kids are back in school and many families simply don’t think of camping during the school, leaving your own family free to enjoy the National Parks and National Forests that are jam-packed during the summer season.

Why should you camp in the fall?

In addition to the less-crowded camping venues, You will actually experience some of the most temperate weather in the fall. Mornings are pleasantly cool, afternoons can be comfortably warm, and the nights are cool enough to wear cozy sweatshirts and snuggle by the campfire. The cool night air makes for great sleeping conditions when your cuddled up under a blanket. You will also enjoy the beautiful autumn color palette and active wildlife.

Should we bring the kids?

Of course! You can certainly squeeze in one last weekend camping trip before you need to put the camping gear up for the winter. While childless campers can enjoy almost empty campgrounds during the week, families can still take advantage of a weekend trip. Your children’s school may even offer a three-day weekend in October around conference time, so check the calendar and see what you can work out.

Preparing for a fall camping trip.

Remember that many camp grounds reduce their entrance fees after Labor Day, so you should be able to save a little money during a fall camping trip.

Don’t forget to pack heavier clothes for your fall trip. The entire family will need jeans, sweatshirts and long-sleeved shirts.

Because the weather patterns can be a bit volatile in the fall, you need to go prepared for a bit of everything. If you are camping in a hurricane zone, be sure you know the evacuation routes. Campers in moonsoon country need to be prepared with necessary rain gear and high country campers many need to take precautions for an early snow storm.

While most camp grounds don’t require fall reservations, they can still fill up quickly on the weekends. It’s better to call ahead and make a reservation — just in case.

So gather the family, pick a weekend, and start planning your fall camping trip. You just might find that fall camping is the best camping!
